Romping Around

Rompers, rompers everywhere!  I’m curious, would you try the look?  I have to admit I bought a romper a couple of years ago at French Connection and was surprised at just how much use I got out of it.  While it’s just a simple short, long-sleeved, navy number, it’s still a one piece suit, which can be terrifyingly daring to pull off!  But what I have found is that they are shockingly flattering on many different body types!  And there are several different styles of romp to fit to your liking.  Hell, I am going out on a limb here – I am a fan of the romper, trendy or not (there, I said it).

What do you think?  Would you hop on the romper train?  Next time you see one in a storefront go in and try it on!  Your mom pulled it off in the 70s so who’s to say you can’t pull it off in ’13!  Shake what your momma gave ya!

Is it Friday yet?

Color Collective

As I was thinking about what to wear to dinner (here) last night with my girlfriends, the only thing I knew for sure was that I was going to wear my new red Kenneth Jay Lane earrings.  Trying to picture what to wear with them, I thought, black? No. White? Too pale.  And then, aha!  I remembered, Color Collective.  For those of you who are unfamiliar, get involved!  It is an extremely creative and unique blog (the only I have come across) strictly devoted to color pairings seen in fashion, art and the like.  It’s not only a place where you can go for a little daily eye candy, it’s also a place to find inspiration for your style, interiors and beyond.  Here are just a few of my favorite images from the site:

Now, like I said I had picked out earrings and was not willing to give those up.  So after looking at this pairing with my earring red (and some chilly weather):

I thought about what items in my closet I had in the paired colors… and here’s the outfit I came up with!

Color Collective
(Zara jeans, Enzo shoes, Leather jacket from Italy, Forever21 scarf, Kenneth Jay Lane earrings, Rebecca Minkoff Nikki bag, Forever21 shirt)

See?  Inspiration right at your finger tips!  I am learning about color in my interior design course as we speak (remember ROY G BIV?), and it’s been very interesting to hear about the effects of color on mood and self-confidence, and how much culture affects perception of color.  I tend to be very drawn towards vibrant colors, which may be because of the positive effect it has on my mood.  And there are certain color combos that really repel me.  Black and red?  YUCK!  I don’t know why, but I just can’t do it!  What colors are you drawn towards?  What colors to you tend to avoid?

Hope everyone is enjoying the week!  Is it me or has every day felt like Friday this week?

A DAY IN MEREDITH’S LIFE

7:15am – Shower; Products: L’Oreal Eversleek shampoo and conditioner (or as a guilty pleasure: Biolage) and Kiehl’s lavender body wash (“every little de-stresser counts”)

7:30am – Check emails, spray Aveeno Nourish + Condition Leave-in treatment in hair and comb through, blow-dry and put hair in bun until getting to work (for body and wave); “I pick out clothes based on what the day has to offer”, for instance; Meetings with management – pencil or column skirt with form fitting long-sleeved top, style-out/photoshoot – leather leggings and whatever shoes support the outfit (“If worse comes to worse, I’ll borrow something from the closet.” – must be nice!)

7:45am – Apply make-up (here’s what’s in Meredith’s makeup bag: Olay moisturizer, Cle de Peau foundation (same as Laura – I may need to jump on this bandwagon!), NARS Laguna bronzer (I use this too!), Maybelline eyeliner and mascara, Eos lip balm or Smith’s Rosebud Salve for lips and cheeks with Chanel Rouge Coco Shine “for subdued color”); Perfume: Moschino “Love” or Viktor and Rolf’s “Flowerbomb”

8:30am – Arrive to work; Eat breakfast – almond granola cereal and Pret-a-Manger coffee (“I think the main reason I go in there is because it smells like France”); Check Google alerts, vogue.com, wwd.com and Refinery29’s “5 Things You Must Know This AM” for all things fashion; Morning/Daily Maintenance include “meetings with my boss, gear up social media for the day: Instagram, Pinterest, manage influx of emails, have call with e-commerce team to discuss website issues, etc.”

1:00pm/2:00pm – Lunch: either a turkey sandwich with tomato and avocado on whole grain bread or Chop’t “my healthiest guilty pleasure!”

Afternoon – Photoshoot, brainstorm meetings for upcoming campaigns or styling out upcoming segments in the media.(sounds so cool!)

6:00pm – “The air/heat goes off at work which reminds me that I should probably leave soon…”

7:00pm – Drinks with old co-workers, sushi with friends or home to make dinner and have some wine!  Dinner at home – wine (Malbec or Beaujolais) with pita chips and hummus (Trader Joes Mediteranean hummus & sea salt pita chips “if you haven’t tried, please do”) to start and then chicken or tofu with kale and rice or pasta with portobello mushrooms mixed with San Marzano sauce.

8:00pm – Check emails again, catch up on episodes of Revenge, Modern Family, Real House Wives of Anything

10:00pm – Wash face with Philosophy Micro Exfoliating wash, apply Olay’s “Night of Olay” firming face creme, L’Oreal Youth Code Eye Creme and Eos lip balm; Exfoliate 2x/week with Bobbi Brown’s  “Buffing Grains for Face” (“which comes in the prettiest jar”); Bed with one or three of that month’s fashion mags – Vogue, W, Marie Claire or Elle

Thanks Meredith!  I love the attention to detail!  Having worked at Vogue, Meredith knows her products and has an amazing fashion sense.  I don’t know about you guys but her job sounds a lot more fun than mine!

Hope everyone in New England and the Tri-State is surviving the storm!  I’m currently cooped up in the suburbs by a fire watching the weather.  Eeek!
