DIY – Calendar Wall Art

As I mentioned, putting things on the wall has been a bit intimidating this early on in the process.  But!  I did make one minor (huge) change in our kitchen.  What was once a blank wall with a random map thrown on it, is now a wall of… well, two of our favorite things: food and beer.  Remember this little gift guide?  I ended up using it for my own boyf last year and purchased this Red Cruiser calendar, which ended up being quite a hit.  However, once a year is over, what’s the use?  Basically calendars are good for nothing upon expiration.  Except… a gallery wall!  Watch and learn my friends…

Here is what the calendar looked like before…

Too cute to get rid of right?

So trim the numbers and days off (I actually kept the month and descriptions)…

ta dah!  All you need is an old calendar, scissors, tape, and some Ikea frames.  Cheap and easy!

Dainty Duds

Anyone who knows me is aware, I love me some costume jewelry.  Chunky necklaces and big bold earrings are always a go-to and anything with COLOR typically draws me in like a kid to a candy store.  But lately, I have been absolutely LOVING the layering trend: long dainty necklaces, mixed with short barely there necklaces and earrings that can (and have) slip through the cracks (or holes).  I have friends who have always rocked this style and I have always admired their ability to keep it simple (something I clearly struggle with).  A few simple gold necklaces are not only feminine but also sexy, in a nonchalant/not trying kind of way.  While you can find some fakey pieces at your local street corner vendor or costume jewelry store, buying real gold or silver can be the better investment for those timeless pieces you want to live in (think, no tarnishing or having the daily clasp battle – you know what I’m talking about).  Here are some of the best options I ran into during my hunt for the perfect dainty dud to get my new style off to the right start…

Ah-mazing!  I want them all.  What do you all think?  Would you try the layering look?  I think the key is to do 2-3 at differing lengths with a similar chain.  It’s so fun to experiment and I am now dreaming about the Vale “Carrie necklace” (How can we forget the Petrovsky sparkler).

Have a great start to the week!

Bottoms up!

Ok, quickie post here but just had to [humble] brag about one of the Christmas presents my boyfriend gave me this year!  So remember that fun little beer making adventure a couple of months ago?  Well, check out the finished product!

That’s right ladies and gents – SOUTH OF MAIN STREET BEER!  Can you believe such a thing?  The gift being the beer bottle labels (of course), were made from the amazing site Pinhole Press.  They have tons of great ideas for photo cards, calendars, etc. and make fantastic gifts!  The site is very user-friendly and all you do is upload the image and voilà!  They will show you a sample of how the label/card/calendar will look and you have a personable, easy present from the click of a mouse (and some dolla dolla bills).

In case you’re wondering (I know most of you have probably been losing sleep over this), the beer we made came out great!  It has been so much fun drinking something we made from scratch and it actually does take like real-live-IPA!   If you’re in the NYC area, I would highly suggest checking out Bitter & Esters in Brooklyn as a gift idea or random outing with friends.  It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

Sláinte!

And there you have it folks!  Many of these gems you can buy online, which is music to the ears if you ask me!  I’ve about had it with crowds and long lines these days!  A few things to note here… the JamBox is probably the best gift you could give to anyone with an iPhone (aka everyone); I recently purchased Illesteva sunglasses and am absolutely obsessed, mostly because they make me look way cooler than I actually am; magazine subscriptions are a surprisingly cheap and thoughtful gift…that keeps on giving every month; I love the personalized city signs for anyone who wants to buy me a Christmas present.  Andddd…well, that’s it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and productive weekend, for those of us finishing up last-minute holiday shopping!  Next year I promise to post my shopping guide earlier in the season – New Years resolution #1!

Keep it real.

XOXO

Monogram Mania

With the holidays just around the corner, I thought I would start posting about gift ideas, which is a topic I love!  While I thoroughly enjoy buying for other people, I find it difficult at times to make the gift seem thoughtful, which is part of the reason I try not to buy gift cards (as much as I love receiving them).  What better way to personalize a gift than a monogram?  While there is always the cliché monogrammed canvas tote or button down shirt, here are a few more options with a bit of a unique twist!

Would you want to receive something monogrammed?  Or do you find it to be too preppy?  Personally, I think it’s a trend that will never go “out” and always creates a special detail.  When not overdone, it can be very tasteful.  Check out the monogrammed pillow from this post – doesn’t it add the perfect touch?
